I have not been able to reproduce the problem outside the streaming apps mentioned above. The time interval of these mute events are not predictable and may not repeat for several minutes. It is sometimes accompanied by a faint, high-pitched, single popping noise.
Problem: While in-home streaming via SteamLink (Steam in-home streaming) or Moonlight (nVidia Gamestream) on my Pi 3 B or Pi 3 B+, HDMI audio (PCM) occasionally cuts out (mutes) for a second.
